How will I know when labor starts?
There are some hallmark signs of labor starting, but if you’re not sure, call your doula! Your on-call doula, who is completely familiar with your family’s birth plan, who knows you and your family inside and out, is ready to talk to you at any time, day or night.
You might talk once. You might talk 12 times. But eventually, when you ask her to, your doula will join you.
She will meet you at home or at the hospital–whatever you want, whatever feels right to you in the moment.
She will be with you every step of the way.
In triage, she can explain what’s happening if you’re not sure.
After hospital admission, she will be constantly assessing and adjusting to meet the needs of your family. She might offer a backrub, breathing guidance, hand holding, a pep talk. Whatever you and your family need in the moment, she will provide it. And whether your baby is born vaginally or via cesarean section, she will be as involved and present as you want her to be while always complying with hospital protocols.
She will always be professional and respectful toward every member of your care team. Your OB. Your nurses. The anesthesiologist. Anyone and everyone involved in your birth.
